Would a fly without wings be called a walk?
So the game was good. I was off by a goal with my 2-1 prediction, but the end result is the same. Ronaldo cements his place among Brazil's greats with 12 career World Cup goals, tied with Edson Arantes do Nascimento. Neuville's free kick shot in the first half was utterly incredible, and Marcos should get the game MVP award for the save he made to send it off the upright.
I didn't expect the goals to be sort of opportunistic cleanup goals, though - one expects the Brazilians to create a magically artistic progression that ends in a ball in the net, as opposed to the rebound tap-in sort of scores. I don't think this Brazil team was on a par with those of years past, but the important thing is that they got the job done... and Rivaldo only cried with his hands to his face once, which is some sort of record.
Germany looked remarkably like the US did in their game against Germany - constantly attacking but with nothing to show for it except a losing effort. Towards the end when Germany were making desperation shots, I was really reminded of the US play in the last 20 minutes or so of their game - not making the smartest play in their haste to put the shot on goal. Ah well.
Isn't it ironic that it was Kahn who wasn't up to the challenge, while Marcos played superbly and undeniably was the major factor in Brazil's win?
